    200-pin SODIMM

A small outline dual inline memory module (SODIMM) consists of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). SODIMMs get their name because they are smaller and thinner than regular DIMMs. The gold pins on the bottom of the SODIMM provide a connection between the module and a socket on a larger printed circuit board. The pins on the front and back of a SODIMM are not connected.

200-pin SODIMMs are used to provide DDR and DDR2 SDRAM memory for notebook computers. 200-pin SODIMMs are available in PC2700 DDR SDRAM, PC3200 DDR SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-6400 SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-5300 SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-4200 SDRAM and DDR2 PC2-3200 SDRAM. To use DDR or DDR2 memory, your system motherboard must have 200-pin SODIMM slots and a DDR- or DDR2-enabled chipset. A DDR or DDR2 SODIMM will not fit into a standard SDRAM SODIMM socket. (Information about which memory technology your system uses is included in the Crucial Memory Advisor™ tool.)

The number of black components on a 200-pin SODIMM can vary, but it always has 100 pins on the front and 100 pins on the back, for a total of 200. 200-pin SODIMMs are approximately 2.625 inches long and 1.25 inches high, though the heights can vary. Like 144-pin SODIMMs, 200-pin SODIMMs have one small notch within the row of pins; however, the notch on the 200-pin SODIMMs is closer to the left side of the module.

Had trouble unscrewing the aluminium plate under the computer, but that's not Crucial's fault, it is Apple's. That was the only major problem.

The RAM just slots in, two 2GB pieces in either side. There are black flaps which secure it, as well as the fact that the RAM slots in and is meant to make a click.

It seems to be well built, a bit precariously fragile looking, but it's predominantly inside the computer, so it's not a problem.

I can now run apps like Final Cut Pro X with much less frustration and more ease. Playing games more smoothly and with a bit less lag.

All in all, upgrading from the factory 1GB RAM that was driving me insane, I could finally use Mountain Lion with 4GB of RAM.

Don't expect your computer to run like Usain Bolt though, it also comes down to the processor...I have Intel Core 2 Duo, there is now the amazingly fast Intel I7 on new Macs and MacBooks.

Buy this if getting a new mac is not an option, or unaffordable. In my case, that's both!

Well, I was supposed to upgrade my MacBook Pro from 2gb to 4gb and I ended with just 3gb.

The fact is that with the 2 memories the laptop doesn't reboot. I've tried with with one memory of 2gb and another old one with 1gb and works perfectly.

If you are planning upgrade to 4gb, check with other brand...

Is exactly as advertised. A reasonably priced upgrade which has breathed new life into the machine, and didn't require any specialist installation equipment (Macbook pro mid-2012)

This ram upgrade has really made bid difference speed wise, it was starting to struggle on certain procedures.
As always you're ever sure if there will be a problem installing. But no, easy even for a 66 year old!!!
Crucial would be my 1st port of call when looking for ram upgrade.

My iMac needed a boost to let it run El Capitan. This RAM boost to it up to the maximum allowing a 2007 machine to run 2016 software. It's a bit slower to boot up (but that's the software, not the memory) but it runs fine once it's going. It took longer to disconnect the computer than to change the memory modules.
