Enjoy the efficiency of next-gen Micron ® 3D NAND

Our cutting-edge components are engineered from start to finish for efficiency. As a result, the Crucial MX500 uses only a minimal amount of power and still delivers a high price-to-performance ratio – without needing a financing plan to pay for it. Experience a faster, cooler, and quieter computer in your home or business. You’ll wonder how you ever put up with a hard drive.

Upgrade with a drive you can count on

With thousands of hours of pre-release validation, dozens of SSD qualification tests, and a heritage of award- winning SSDs, the Crucial MX500 has been thoroughly tried, tested, and proven. Secure your most important files on a drive with established dependability and these advanced features.

    1. Hardware-based encryption: Keep personal files and confidential data restricted from hackers and thieves with AES 256-bit encryption that meets all industry standards, including Microsoft ® eDrive, IEEE- 1667, and TCG Opal 2.0.
    2. Integrated Power Loss Immunity: Avoid unintended data loss when the power unexpectedly goes out. This built-in feature of our new NAND protects your data swiftly and efficiently, so if your system suddenly shuts down, you keep all your saved work.
    3. Exclusive Data Defense: Prevent your photos, music, videos, and other files from becoming corrupted and unusable with layers of error correction and adaptive read technology.
    4. Redundant Array of Independent NAND: Protect your data at the component level with an SSD that automatically provides parity protection for your data. This high-end feature works similarly to how RAID is used with multiple hard drives and maintains the integrity of your data, especially for intense users.
    5. Built-in durability: Because SSDs don’t use moving parts that wear out over time (unlike hard drives), your files are less susceptible to a crash. SSDs are better equipped to survive physical trauma, like getting dropped, because they don’t rely on mechanical parts.

    Install with confidence

For many people, opening a computer and transferring data seems terrifying. That’s why we’ve made it easy in the step-by-step Crucial SSD Install Guide. Check it out before you buy, then install your own SSD quickly with everything transferred over successfully and hassle-free.

Micron ® quality – a higher level of reliability.

As a brand of Micron, one of the largest flash storage manufacturers in the world, the Crucial MX500 is backed by the same quality and engineering innovation that has produced some of the world’s most advanced memory and storage technologies for more than 35 years. Split-second speeds, lasting reliability, and a decades-long legacy – upgrading with the Crucial MX500 gives you the best combination of quality, performance, and security. It’s worth it.

I bought this 500gb SSD to replace the original 128Gb 'C' System SSD on my Windows 8.1 HP desktop PC, which had reached capacity. Also purchased the installation kit, but it turned out that I only actually required the USB/SATA cable.

Hooked up the drive via the cable, and the computer saw it. So far so good. I downloaded the Acronis software. Problems arose when I tried to install the software. The installation process repeatedly failed with the progress bar at the halfway point. No error message, no other information. I reasoned that this was probably because of lack of space on the existing SSD, and so deleted the install files from the 'C' drive and attempted to install onto another internal HDD ('L'). Still no luck. I deleted the installation file, tried a fresh download and another installation to the 'L' drive. Same result. I looked at the Acronis 'help' pages, but these seem aimed at IT professionals who know their way around Registry edits.

Long story short, I gave up on the Acronis software. It may be free, but it's no use if it won't even install. I downloaded and installed AOMEI Backupper and AOMEI Partition Assistant, which got the imaging done and the partitions sorted very quickly and simply. Cost a few quid for Backupper, but it's a good bit of software. I don't mind paying for something that actually works.

The Crucial SSD has been in place for a couple of weeks now, and I'm very pleased with it. I've now got more than enough space for new installations and for programs to run properly. There may be faster SSDs out there, but a few milliseconds here or there is no concern to me.

I bought the 500Gb disk as the additional installation kit - the disk is fine, the kit is useless.

The kit comes with a USB adapter and the Acronis software to allow you to clone your disk BEFORE installing it. This just does not work!

The Acronis software refuses to identify the disk as a Crucial disk when connected via the supplier (in the same box!) USB adapter. Other free software does recognise the disk but then refuses to clone the original disk as the 'sector size' is different - so both as much use as a chocolate teapot.

Installing the disk internally (blank) causes further issues - the Dell PC refused to boot from the existing disk until I partitioned the SSD (via USB) and switched from GPT to MBR config.

The Acronis software then did it's job - it would acknowledge the disk was from Crucial and would clone the original hard disk over.

So that complete, I removed the original hard disk and put the SSD in its place, and guess what - the Dell refused to boot. Further investigation pointed to the UEFI config in the boot menu - there were now two entries labelled 'Windows Boot Manager' - manually selecting the second one worked, and after a bit of further digging I managed to change the boot priority to the second one.

Still looking to find a way to delete the first one (which points to a none-existent drive - well the drive exists but is sitting in my cupboard!).

So not totally straight forward, but got there in the end, and very happy with the results.

This was used to replace a failed sata drive in a macbook pro 2012. This drive, gave new life to an old macbook, and the speed increase was significant. I'll certainly be using these drives in other laptops.

SSD purchased to replace HDD in 3 year old laptop to boost performance and increase longevity of kit. Crucial scanner produced recommendation for guaranteed compatible SSD. Just upgraded the hard drive in my 8 year old MacBook Pro and wished I had done it years ago. It boots up almost as quickly as it did when i bought it, not the 3-4 minutes it has been taking of late! I found the instructions for the Mac a bit of a faff to locate but once found, they were easy to follow and I'm really pleased with the result.

Fitted this to an elderly Dell Vostro Laptop for a blind acquaintance. Speeded it up remarkably. Fitting instructions not that good - I attached the new and old drives to my Desktop and used Caspar to copy everything. Worked well.

I had an old, but in perfect state, high-spec Dell Latitude, still running Windows 7. Installed windows 10 from scratch and the laptop had a new lease of (slow) life.
I then replaced the hard drive with the SSD 500GB, again reinstalling Windows 10 from scratch, and the difference was very remarkable. Suddenly, the old laptop (eight years or thereabout) sprang back to life and is working very well. Truly excellent.
BTW, installing and using the SSD was trivialy simple.
