    204-pin SODIMM for Mac

In short, 204-pin small outline dual inline memory modules (SODIMMs) are the form factor used to provide DDR3 memory modules for notebook computers and other small form factor computing platforms.

To use DDR3 memory, your system must have both a 204-pin SODIMM slot and a chipset that supports DDR3 memory. A DDR3 SODIMM will not fit into DDR2 or DDR memory sockets.

SODIMMs are smaller and thinner than regular DIMMs, and the 204-pin SODIMM PCBs are always ~2.6 inches long and are usually around 1.18 inches high (though the heights can vary slightly). They consist of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). The number of memory components on a 204-pin SODIMM's printed circuit board (PCB) can vary, but the PCB will always have 102 pins on the front and the back both, for a total of 204 pins. The gold pins on the bottom of the SODIMM provide the connection between the memory module and the memory socket.

      • Speeds Up The Performance

To start off I would like to say that I have a MacBook Pro 2012 13 inch, which is a non-retina, and I have had the 16gb RAM upgrade working perfectly for a week.

I was debating whether or not to get the 8gb or the 16gb RAM upgrade, because Apple states that my MacBook can only support up to an 8gb, however on the forums I visited, Crucial stated that they have tested 16gb and it works. I figured that I would take the chance and ordered the 16gb, I probably would have needed to upgrade again eventually anyway.

      The 16gb worked straight away!

The installation was quick and simple, Apple even provide a step-by-step guide on how to do it, Google it, so it does NOT void the warranty. Be WARNED retina models CANNOT exchange RAM because the RAM is soldered in-place on the logic board (motherboard).

My MacBook came with the standard 4gb memory and for months it had been freezing on programs as simple as Pages, which meant audio and video editing was impossible. Since the 16gb upgrade, my Mac has been operating so much faster and smoother, as it should, after all that is why I purchased the upgrade.

To conclude, the 16gb works perfectly and I recommend buying it. Thanks Crucial!

I upgraded the standard 4GB RAM to 16GB. It worked without a hitch, and was immediately recognised by the system.

If you've upgraded to El Capitan, you'll need more ram than the standard 4GB! You may as well go for 16GB if you're opening the back of you machine, saving you having to do it again in the future. I would also recommend buying yourself an SSD drive, and just do the whole lot in one go (which is what I did).

Super speedy machine, without having to buy a retina model.

Also, delivery was next day (I ordered first thing in the morning). Tracking info was provided so I knew it was on its way.

            Very pleased.
