Old benefits of upgrading topic, but last bit of kit I've upgraded to SSD and has breathed new life into late 2011 MacBook Pro using much more again now
Excllent instructions, easy to insall
Nothing more to add
Bought this to upgrade a Mid 2011 iMac 21.5". Also bought disk carrier as advised. The connectors in the carrier just did not work so had to modify it - i.e. remove the connector and use the carrier purely as a box to hold the disk! That was disappointing.
Replacing the disk does involve taking the screen off your iMac - Google it and follow the instructions and be careful. I had to do it 3 times due to the disk carrier issue!
I used Carbon Copy Cloner (free download) - really easy and it took 5.5hrs to clone the 500GB drive (85% full) to the SSD via the USB cable. kick it off and go out!
**Beware ** Changing from an Apple disk to an SSD will cause your fans to run at 100% after the upgrade. Looks like this is a known issue as the SSD drive does not have the temp sensor info that an Apple disk has.
You can fix it really easily using SSD Fan Control - a software product to override the default of 100% fan speed.
The speed, as you would expect from an SSD, is epic and definatley worth the money. I will be upgrading my other iMac with an SSD to prolong their life. Just beware of the above!
Bought one of these to try and improve my flagging laptop. It took about an hour to clone the old drive and install the SSD into my laptop. Turned it on and the performnce is phenomenal. 15 seconds to fully boot up that would previously take 4 - 5 minutes. And when I use the laptop it simply flies. This has got to be the best upgrade you could ever make.
Replaced an HDD in my mid-2009 Macbook Pro running El Capitan with this SSD. Speed improvement is phenomenal, like having a completely different machine.
Unfortunately my mac freezes every so often, especially after it has gone to sleep mode. Problem seems to be improving over time
I'm very pleased with the much quicker loading times.
