A small outline dual inline memory module (SODIMM) consists of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). SODIMMs get their name because they are smaller and thinner than regular DIMMs. The gold pins on the bottom of the SODIMM provide a connection between the module and a socket on a larger printed circuit board. The pins on the front and back of a SODIMM are not connected.
200-pin SODIMMs are used to provide DDR and DDR2 SDRAM memory for notebook computers. To use DDR or DDR2 memory, your system motherboard must have 200-pin SODIMM slots and a DDR- or DDR2-enabled chipset. A DDR or DDR2 SODIMM will not fit into a standard SDRAM SODIMM socket. (Information about which memory technology your system uses is included in the Crucial Memory Advisor™ tool.)
The number of black components on a 200-pin SODIMM can vary, but it always has 100 pins on the front and 100 pins on the back, for a total of 200. 200-pin SODIMMs are approximately 2.625 inches long and 1.25 inches high, though the heights can vary. Like 144-pin SODIMMs, 200-pin SODIMMs have one small notch within the row of pins; however, the notch on the 200-pin SODIMMs is closer to the left side of the module.

I teach several online college courses and have at least five or six different programs running at any given time so the 1 GIG or RAM that came with the XP laptop was totally inadequate. The 2 gigs makes all the difference (I've got 4 gigs of crucial memory in my Vista PC) The crucial upgraded memory was easy to purchase (crucial memory advisory tool) and funtions really well (we've been purchasing memory from crucial for customer machines (PC's and laptops with NO failures unlike our local in-store purchases). [...] Can you start selling other stuff please!

I bought this memory upgrade for a friends daughters new Dell laptop. I checked with Crucial before buying the memory that it would work at the 800MHz speed in the machine which was confirmed as all memory was being changed. When it arrived it was very easy to install and the instructions were very explicit although they didn't explain static handling precautions (I'm an electronics engineer). On start up the speed increase was only slightly better and on further investigation I found the memory was only running at 533MHz![...]To be honest I would have been better to choose memory running at 533MHz with a low CL timing (this is CL6) to get the last possible speed increase out of the memory and save a few ££It works and was easy to install. I have no worries about suspect origin but I'm not sure if it was value for money.

Comments about Crucial 2GB kit (1GBx2) Upgrade for a Acer Aspire 4315 System:
I was getting well fed up with my Dell Inspiron Laptop. It took ages to start up and loading programs even more time. I was about to bin the thing. Then I saw the crucial scan tool and I ran it. In no time at all I was looking at the answers about what memory was installed and what memory I could buy to improve my Laptop. So I ordered the recommended memory kit. The order process was very easy. I used the special delivery option as I cant wait for stuff to arrive and the postman was ringing my door bell at 9am the very next day. I pulled out the old memory and carefully installed the new pieces. Switched on the Laptop and Great Scott its ready already for work. A noticable improvement on speed. The Windows memory benchmark increased from 2.9 to 4.1 operations per second. I never write reviews - but this is an exceptional experience for me in that a simple upgrade can give such a noticable result and has saved this laptop from going in the bin. Well Done Crucial on providing positive and professional exceeding expectations shopping. Highly Recommended.

This has definately made a difference to my laptop. Just found it difficult taking out the old ones because although I put my make in, the video showed working on a different make.
